I co-directed and produced onedottv_global in 2001 as a primer guide to the future of digital moving image. onedottv_global profiled 24 maverick talents and non-traditional filmmakers from around the world (Tokyo, New York, LA, San Francisco, Paris, Stockholm) shaping the future of moving image.
The twelve part design-oriented series featured contemporary, original and specially commissioned short films and motion graphics, influenced by graphic, club and VJ cultures. Episode content featured two profiles along with featured and specially commissioned work. I also undertook interviewing duties on the series (assisted by Christian Storms in Tokyo to bridge the language barrier), with in-depth interviews with Logan, Tycoon Graphics, H5, Psyop, Kyle Cooper, Jeremy Hollister, Sweden Graphics and Hideyuji Tanaka to name just a few. Much of this interview material because the basis of the book, Motion Blur.
onedottv_global was an adventurous production which took us filming around the globe, and because it was the first television series produced wholly by onedotzero meant a challenging but rewarding learning curve in the minutiae of production deliverables required for Channel 4, UK. After developing and pitching the maxi-series document for Channel 4 it was ultimately commissioned by Jess Search for the 4Later strand. My co-director/producer was Shane Walter, with camera by Grant Gee, sound by Rashid Omar, graphics by Mark Hough & Philip O’Dwyer, and Japanese line production by Andy Thomas. Filming took place in late Summer 2001, with first terrestrial broadcasts later that year.
