A 6 x half hour television anthology from onedotzero, onedottv showcased the innovative and exciting edge of digital graphic film-making. Building on the success of previous critically-acclaimed onedotzero festivals, onedottv is an eclectic anthology of original, independent and progressive work by directors, new media artists and graphic designers celebrating the end of celluloid. It is based on the wow+flutter strand of the first two festivals and was screened by Channel Four and Film Four from late April 1999.
Six programmes mix acknowledged classics of digital film with new commissions. The films are presented complete, and are complemented by short oblique introductions to the films by their makers. Adventures in digital moving image, including work by Chris Cunningham, tomato, Andy Martin, OS2 [Richard Fenwick], Miles Murray Sorrell Fuel, antirom, Milk, ISO, Hexstatic, Honey Brothers, Underbelly, Film Unit AV, Spin and Dylan Kendle. This first series was UK based, and was followed by a double-length global series in 2001.
Besides taking on producer and content design duties, I conducted short interviews with all the artists for this series. We were also able to commission a number of original works for the series of which the one by ISO in particular turned out incredibly well. For the following series we extended this commissioning process so all artists had the opportunity to create a new piece for the series.
